La Taqueria

Street-style taco and mexican food aficionados, rejoice–there’s a new vendor in town that will alter your definition of “authentic” entirely. La Taqueria, a recently established mexican restaurant in Forest, VA, offers a fresh variety of traditional dishes with the option to personalize your order.

The menu is to the point offering staple mexican dishes like quesadillas, burritos, tacos, and gorditas. However, La Taqueria takes these simple recipes to the mouth-watering level with their homemade flour and corn tortillas, deep fried corn flour gordita shells, and a variety of savory meats–including chicken, carnitas pork, and carne asada–all grilled to order. Quecas, sopes, and tortas are a few menu items that are unique within the Lynchburg area.

Here’s the fun part–a condiment cart with essentials like lettuce, cheese, sour cream, cilantro, lime, and an array of freshly-chopped pico de gallo and salsa allow you to prepare your meal with as much–or as little–flavor as you want.

There’s something for everyone at this somewhat hidden gem. Whether you’re breaking for a spicy snack, or in the mood to try something new, trust us–we doubt you’ll regret anything you choose to order off of the menu. If this article didn’t leave you jonesing for a bite, check out the photos.

*Also worth noting is that currently, La Taqueria is the only place in the Lynchburg area (that we’re aware of) serving various “agua frescas,” or fresh tasting, lightly flavored beverages ranging from mango and tamarind (tamarindo) to horchata (cinnamon and rice) and hibiscus (Jamaica). Additionally, their homemade chunky guacamole is some of the freshest we’ve tried.
