Lynchburg Community Market

Shop Local

Every Saturday morning, downtown Lynchburg is alive and buzzing with the sounds of the local market. The melody of live music is only drowned out by the excitement of local vendors and farmers selling their wares and produce to more than eager customers. Dozens of locals brave long lines in hopes of getting a magnificent stuffed crepe from Lorraine’s Bakery, or a sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich on a homemade biscuit, “just like momma used to make it,” at Country Cookin’ By Irene. This weekly affair seems to bring people from all corners of Lynchburg, from Forest to Boonsboro and everywhere in between.

In addition to endless baked goods and fresh produce, you will see paintings, jewelry and other works from local artists, as well as more non-traditional items like bison meat and gourmet treats for the special pup in your life. Another lesser-known fact to note is that the Community Market is in business Tuesday-Friday from 7am-2pm as well, with farm market days being on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. Be sure to connect with them via Facebook, check-in via FourSquare, and bring some cash for the few vendors who may not be accepting cards as of yet.

  1. Thanks Reggie for the incredible article and pictures of the Lynchburg Community Market. It is always humbling and delighting to stumble upon recounts of patron’s experiences at the market. Would it be possible for us to share this article and pictures in some of our media? Love the Lynchvegas facebook page and as a native of Lynchburg, I can say that the dated preconception of ‘boring ole’ Lynchburg’ is showing it’s age and irrelevance and I think that you are doing a great job in leading this charge.
I always think that having people tell me their experiences at the market and how they came to know of the market help me be better at my job. So if you have a moment, I would love to hear back about yours which lead to this article.
    Great work and thanks again.
