The White Hart

We couldn’t think of any better place to feature first on LynchVegas than the Inklings Books & The White Hart (more commonly known as The White Hart). The White Hart opened its doors in 1995 and has been a staple of Lynchburg culture for many years. In 2010, it was purchased by Andrew Schools of Black Water Coffee Co. With its rustic and laid-back atmosphere, it’s a great place to have a chat over some brew. Speaking of brew, all of their coffee is provided by Black Water and is organically grown and fairly-traded. They even roast the beans in the back of the store.

If you’re hungry, they also serve up some great dishes, some of which we’ll feature later (The Pub Burger is amazing). If you’re looking for a good book, all you have to do explore their many cases and no doubt you’ll find something interesting (just make sure you return it before you leave).

You may not have known that the White Hart has a back room AND deck that is open to everyone! Don’t be afraid to venture back and find a good spot to chill.

Keep an ear out for White Hart After Dark. Can’t say much, but it’s going to be awesome.

Black Water Coffee Co. recently opened a small shop at 828 Main St. in the Bank of the James building.

  1. Tim Patterson is also an owner (and the roaster) – he’s awesome, too.

  3. Just some historical correction. It was Inklings Bookshop that opened in 1995. Then the owners of Inklings established the White Hart in 2007. The White Hart, but not Inklings, was sold to Black Water Coffee Company in 2010. Great idea for your website. Good luck with it!

  5. I was disappointed when I asked for a decaf coffee. I understand not making big pots of it, but a French press is good for a single cup. I watch the server stuff a coffee filter in a cup and pour water over the grounds, making a mess and taking forever to make a cup of coffee. If you can’t make it right, just don’t serve it. I didn’t dare ask for a refill.
